U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on Holiday Safety

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Underwriters Laboratories (UL) issued a joint Holiday Safety Alert on December 13th entitled, “Consumer Injuries Involving Decorations and Decorating Are on the Rise.” Although injuries and deaths from Christmas related fires have decreased, “reports of falls from ladders while stringing lights and hanging decorations, incidents of lacerations from broken glass ornaments and other holiday-related injuries are increasing.” In an effort to mitigate this holiday risk, the CPSC has produced Ladder Safety 101 , a set of 15 tips to minimize dangers when on or around ladders. For more information on product safety go the CPSC’s homesite at http://www.cpsc.gov/ or that of the Underwriters Laboratories at http://www.safetyathome.com/.
