At a kosher grocery store in Jersey City, NJ, two assailants opened fire, killing three people inside the market and wounding two officers in a shootout that lasted over an hour. Prior to arriving at the store, the assailants shot and killed a Jersey City police detective who had approached them at a nearby cemetery in regards to a investigation he was conducting; they had been driving in a U-Haul van connected with a murder the previous week. (NJ.com) Both assailants were shot and killed by police, and New Jersey Attorney General Grewal told reporters, “The evidence points toward acts of hate. I can confirm that we’re investigating this matter as potential acts of domestic terrorism fueled both by antisemitism and anti-law enforcement beliefs.” (Washington Post) Authorities later found more weapons in the U-Haul van, including a pipe bomb.
