Security holes at DMVs nationwide

The Center for Democracy and Technology is urging attention to security problems nationwide in the issuance of driver’s licenses. CDT warns that adding more biometric information to driver’s licenses will not make them a more reliable identification card. Bribery and lax security at state motor vehicle offices nationwide is targeted as the primary problem in regard to identity theft and illegal driver’s licenses. These concerns, as well as policy recommendations are addressed in a January 2004 paper: http://www.cdt.org/privacy/20040200dmv.pdf
