Safety of Cities in 2017

The Economist’s intelligence Unit has released their 2017 Safe Cities Index, a report “based on the second iteration of the index, which ranks 60 cities across 49 indicators covering digital security, health security, infrastructure security and personal security.”

The report notes that America’s crumbling infrastructure has lowered many American cities’ overall ranking on the index. You can read more about that issue on our recent infrastructure blog post. The result is no US city ranked in the top 10, with only San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Chicago making the top 20.

You can read the full report here on the HSDL (non-registered readers can find it here)and, for more information you can find the United Nations’ assessment of world cities from 2016 here.
