The public often sees senior officials as responsible for the success or failure of disaster response and recovery efforts.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency released the “Local Elected and Appointed Officials Guide: Roles and Resources in Emergency Management.” As they stated in the quote above, local elected and appointed officials have a responsibility to manage emergencies and disasters in an effective manner with prompt decision making. The purpose of this guide is to aid in that decision making process. Some topics covered in this resource include:
- Leading communities to recognize and manage threats and hazards;
- Resource assistance for communities;
- Disaster management for minority communities; and
- Federal training and finance resources.
