The Nixon Center’s International Security and Energy Program recently hosted a half-day conference, “Developing a New Black Sea Security Agenda: Oil, Pipelines and Regional Security” to discuss the political and economic future of the Black Sea region. Speakers included ambassadors from the surrounding region. The meeting focused on Washington’s attention on the region in anticipation of the June 2004 NATO Summit which will be held in Istanbul, Turkey. The region is an emerging strategic area of concern.
