The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has released their most recent National Terrorism Advisory System Bulletin, published on February 7, 2022. This bulletin, set to expire on June 7, 2022, summarizes current terrorist threats that are being monitored and for which our nation is currently most at risk. The current following activities are mentioned as putting the U.S. in a state of heightened risk:
- The proliferation of false or misleading narratives, which sow discord or undermine public trust in U.S. government institutions.
- Continued calls for violence directed at U.S. critical infrastructure; soft targets and mass gatherings; faith-based institutions, such as churches, synagogues, and mosques; institutions of higher education; racial and religious minorities; government facilities and personnel, including law enforcement and the military; the media; and perceived ideological opponents.
- Calls by foreign terrorist organizations for attacks on the United States based on recent events.
The bulletin provides further information on what DHS is doing to monitor and prevent terrorist activity, along with important ways Americans can help.
