Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Has Released a Report on the 1 October Mass Casualty Shooting
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) released a criminal investigative report with the summary of forensic evidence following the October 1st, 2017 mass casualty shooting that took place at the Route 91 Harvest music festival from nearby Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino. Following the 1 October shooting, the collaboration between the LVMPD, FBI, and other city, state, and federal agencies resulted in a detailed description of what happened.
The report offers a thorough overview of all people involved, with particular attention given to the suspect and his potential accomplices, as well as the incident overview, including a timeline, witness interviews, location and data analysis. In addition, the report summarizes the actions of all responding law enforcement agencies, including the apprehension of the suspect and the post-shooting evacuations.
The key investigative findings are:
-
Despite early reports of multiple shooters in different locations, DNA evidence suggests that the shooter acted alone;
- There is no evidence to suggest the intent of suicide or prior self-radicalization. The shooter did not support or follow any hate groups or any domestic or foreign terrorist organization;
- The shooter had no prior criminal history. All the weapons and ammunition he purchased were purchased legally;
The analysis “was authored to provide the reader with more information about about who, what, when, and where. Regretfully, this report will not be able to address the why.”
