FBI Crime Report: Violent Crime Up

According to the FBI’s 2016 Crime in the United States report, though overall crime is down, violent crimes, most notably murder, is up. This is largely in part to Chicago, but also along with other large cities, the murder rate increased nationally 7.9 percent. New York City, unlike other large cities though, has not seen an increase. This is the second year that there has been an increase in violent crime in the nation overall. “This publication is a statistical compilation of offense, arrest, and police employee data reported by law enforcement agencies voluntarily participating in the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program.”
