Director of National Intelligence’s ‘Summary of the Reengagement of Detainees Formerly Held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba’

The Director of National Intelligence (DNI) has released the report for the period ending December 29, 2011 which details the status and recidivism rate of former detainees at Guantanamo Bay. Of a total 599 former prisoners (excluding eight who died while incarcerated and one who was transferred), 95 have been confirmed as reengaging in terrorism. This constitutes 15.9%; however, the percentage of those reoffending has fallen from a pre-22 January 2009 rate of 17.3% to the currently reported rate of 4.5%.
