DHS Equity Action Plan

On January 20, 2021, U.S. President Joseph Biden released the Executive Order 13985: Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government. With this order, federal agencies are charged with the task of evaluating their various programs and policies to ensure they are meeting the new standards for ensuring the underserved communities are properly supported. In response to this Executive Order, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released their Equity Action Plan. DHS plans to advance equity in seven program areas:

  1. Applying for naturalization;
  2. Accessing humanitarian protection during immigration processing;
  3. Bidding on a DHS contract;
  4. Countering Domestic Violent Extremism (DVE) and targeted violence;
  5. Filing complaints and seeking redress in DHS programs and activities;
  6. Airport screening;
  7. [and] Accessing Trusted Traveler Programs.

The DHS Equity Action Plan can be accessed here. Be sure to search the HSDL for equity action plans from other programs as well. Please note an HSDL login is required to view some of these resources.
