Biodefense Research Agenda Progress Report

According to a progress report by an expert panel convened by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), they have made “tremendous progress” in developing a bioterrorism research capability. Areas of progress include: establishing the research infrastructure, including biosafety containment laboratories, needed to study dangerous pathogens; generating interest within industry and academia in the development of biodefense countermeasures; and funding biodefense research at universities and in the private sector.
