Office of Naval Intelligence Special Notice: Piracy Outlook during the Monsoon Season
This special notice from the Office of Naval Intelligence outlines the southwest/summer monsoon conditions in the Indian Ocean and the effect of these conditions on piracy. According to the report, "weather conditions during the monsoon season will likely reduce the number of pirate attacks. However, pirates will continue to operate when and where weather conditions permit." The outlook estimates where pirates will be most likely to attack throughout the Gulf of Aden, the North Arabian Sea, The Indian Ocean, and coast of Omar, in addition to areas around Kenya, Madagascar, Tanzania, and Mozambique as the monsoon season progresses.
