Earthquake Safety and Mitigation for School Buildings: Providing Protection to People and Buildings [video]
This hour long webinar for school officials, teachers, facility managers, and other local stakeholders discusses how to reduce earthquake risks and take action to ensure school safety. The presenters highlighted the value of school preparedness, participating in ShakeOut 'drop, cover, hold on' drills, and most importantly investing on earthquake risk reduction methods to fully enhance schools' resilience from earthquake events. The webinar taught the participants how to: "1) Assess and analyze your earthquake risks 2) Develop an actionable plan to reduce and manage earthquake risks 3) Initiate an earthquake risk reduction plan for existing school buildings that were not designed and constructed to meet modern building codes 4) Secure 'non-structural' elements of the school facility; and 5) Apply 'incremental seismic rehabilitation/retrofitting' to protect buildings and ensure occupant safety".
