LLIS Lesson Learned: School Pandemic Influenza Preparedness: Incorporating Inventory Information into Emergency Plans
"Higher education institutions should consider including up-to-date inventory information about personal protective equipment (PPE) and other emergency supplies in their emergency plans. The plans can detail current stockpile levels as well as provide projections of how long the stockpiles would last during an emergency. [...] On October 10, 2007, the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) held a tabletop exercise (TTX) simulating the effect of a worldwide pandemic influenza outbreak on its Wilmington campus. The TTX scenario included the identification of a suspected avian influenza case on the UNCW campus. The TTX evaluated the UNCW pandemic influenza response plan and helped to prepare UNCW emergency responders. The TTX included 15 participants representing 12 UNCW departments."

Decade Later: A Call for TSA Reform, Joint Majority Staff Report, One Hundred and Twelfth Congress, November 16, 2011
"This report is an examination and critical analysis of the development, evolution, and current status and performance of TSA [Transportation Security Administration] ten years after its creation. Since its inception, TSA has lost its focus on transportation security. Instead, it has grown into an enormous, inflexible and distracted bureaucracy, more concerned with human resource management and consolidating power, and acting reactively instead of proactively. As discussed more fully in the Recommendations section on page 18, TSA must realign its responsibilities as a federal regulator and focus on analyzing intelligence, setting screening and security standards based on risk, auditing passenger and baggage screening operations, and ensuring compliance with national screening standards. The purpose of this report is to offer constructive recommendations for the improvement of airport screening operations and transportation security. This review of TSA's performance and current mission has been conducted by Majority investigative staff of the House Committees on Transportation and Infrastructure and Oversight and Government Reform. Members of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure were responsible for authoring the organic legislation that created TSA, and Members are currently preparing new legislation to reform TSA in accordance with the findings in this report."

Washington State Fusion Center and the Pacific Northwest Economic Region: Building a Critical Infrastructure/Key Resource Information Sharing Capability
"During the past year, PNWER [Pacific NorthWest Economic Region] and WSFC [Washington State Fusion Center] staff polled hundreds of public and private sector regional stakeholder organizations through the use of surveys and stakeholder meetings to develop requirements for the CIKR [Critical Infrastructure/Key Resource] component of the WSFC. Initial work on the pilot project began with a kick-off meeting on June 19, 2008, with interested regional stakeholders attending. At this meeting the participants learned how the WSFC operates and is organized so they could offer input regarding how to best serve the broader stakeholder community. Work Group members subsequently convened via conference calls on July 19, August 5, and August 18. A broader stakeholder meeting was then held on September 5, 2008 to determine Pilot Project requirements."
