The guide examines available evidence and makes recommendations for the use of radiography, computed tomography and ultrasound for acute care of adult patients with suspected, probable or confirmed COVID-19 at different levels of disease severity. [2] The private sector plays a critical role in the preparedness and response activities for COVID-19 locally, nationally and globally. WHO has published 'Asks' to the private sector in the response to COVID-19, such as protecting stakeholders and businesses, making essential supplies available, and providing financial support. [3] The Government of Canada has agreed to contribute over US $5 million to the WHO Regional Office for the Americas to support COVID-19 response activities, including increasing access to personal protective equipment and other critical supplies. The contribution will focus on supporting marginalized and vulnerable communities in 23 countries in the Americas. 'COVID-19 has been a problem for most countries, but this pandemic also provides a good opportunity to pursue health as a bridge to peace', said Dr Carissa F. [2] During the last two weeks, WHO has delivered over 55 tons of health supplies by road to northeast Syria. These shipments contained equipment and medical supplies to treat many diseases, including COVID-19. The primary objective of this study is to characterize and assess the risk factors for SARS-CoV-2 [severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2] infection in health workers exposed to COVID-19 patients. [2] A scientific brief has been published by WHO investigating any association between smoking and an increased risk for COVID-19. At the time of this review, the available evidence suggests that in hospitalized COVID-19 patients, smoking is associated with increased severity of disease and death. [3] WHO has published a population-based age-stratified seroepidemiological investigation protocol for COVID-19 virus infection. This protocol was designed to investigate the extent of infection, as determined by positive blood tests in the general population, in any country in which COVID-19 virus infection has been reported. [4] Elements of the COVID-19 Strategic Response and Preparedness Plan (SPRP) have been updated and are reviewed on a regular basis by WHO in consultation of all six regional offices. Delegates adopted a landmark resolution to bring the world together to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. [2] WHO has been supporting Somalia since the beginning of this outbreak to enhance its infection control measures, testing capacities, and case management. In particular, training has been provided for the healthcare workers of the De-Martino hospital and 13 other isolation centres across the country, which have also received medical supplies and budget support for salaries. However, so far, only 26% of WHO's urgent appeal of US$ 21.95 million for emergency response to COVID-19 in Somalia has been funded. Member States will deliver statements, report their progress in fighting the coronavirus, share knowledge on the evolving situation and consider a draft resolution on COVID-19. It is available live online in Arabic, Chinese, Russian, English, French, and Spanish. [2] WHO [World Health Organization] has signed an agreement with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to work together to promote health through sport and physical activity. The agreement has a special focus on preventing non-communicable diseases (NCDs). This collaboration is timely because the current COVID-19 pandemic is particularly affecting people with NCDs. [3] Flooding in Somalia has raised concerns of an upsurge in cholera cases as the country deals with a growing number of COVID-19 cases. Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Situation Report - 118From the Highlights: "[1] Presidents Carlos Alvarado Quesada of Costa Rica and Sebastián Piñera of Chile joined the WHO [World Health Organization] Director-General Dr Tedros on 15 May to announce progress on a technology platform that aims to lift access barriers to effective vaccines, medicines and other health products against COVID-19 [coronavirus disease 2019]. The platform, which will officially launch on 29 May, will pool data, knowledge and intellectual property for existing or new COVID-19 health products to deliver 'global public goods' for all people and all countries. [2] Japan has agreed to contribute over US$2.7 million to help nine countries in the Americas strengthen their capacities to detect cases, monitor, and control outbreaks of COVID-19, as well as ensure that reliable public health information on the COVID-19 pandemic is available to people involved in the response and the general public. [3] A community of youth influencers named the Global Shapers Community is working with the WHO Regional Office for Europe to ensure that tailored health advice reaches communities, families and individuals in countries across the European Region. This collaboration allows young community members to flag rumours, report on the tone of discussions on their channels and ask questions, as well as share information and project ideas to WHO.
