President Bush Discusses Economic Rescue Plan [September 30, 2008]
This document is a White House transcript of President Bush's September 30, 2008 speech where he discusses the economic rescue plan. "Yesterday, the House of Representatives voted on a financial rescue plan that had been negotiated by Congressional leaders of both parties and my administration. Unfortunately, the measure was defeated by a narrow margin. I'm disappointed by the outcome, but I assure our citizens and citizens around the world that this is not the end of the legislative process. Producing legislation is complicated, and it can be contentious. It matters little what a path a bill takes to become law. What matters is that we get a law. We're at a critical moment for our economy, and we need legislation that decisively address the troubled assets now clogging the financial system, helps lenders resume the flow of credit to consumers and businesses, and allows the American economy to get moving again."

President Bush Discusses the Economy [October 17, 2008]
This White House document is a transcript of President Bush's October 17, 2008 speech where he discusses the U.S. economy. "Our nation is dealing with a serious financial crisis. Over the past month, Americans have witnessed fast-moving events involving complicated financial issues. I know many of our citizens are concerned about their finances. They're worried about the extent of government intervention into the marketplace. In my conversations with business owners and workers and families across our country, I've heard the same message: The American people want a clear explanation of what this crisis means for them, what the government is doing to fix it, and how this will affect the future of the free market that makes our economy so dynamic and prosperous. And that's what I've come to talk about."

President Bush Discusses Importance of Freedom in the Middle East [January 13, 2008]
This document is a White House Press Office transcript of President Bush's January 13, 2008 speech discussing the importance of freedom in the Middle East. "For decades, the people of this region saw their desire for liberty and justice denied at home and dismissed abroad in the name of stability. Today your aspirations are threatened by violent extremists who murder the innocent in pursuit of power. These extremists have hijacked the noble religion of Islam, and seek to impose their totalitarian ideology on millions. They hate freedom and they hate democracy -- because it fosters religious tolerance and allows people to chart their own future. They hate your government because it does not share their dark vision. They hate the United States because they know we stand with you in opposition to their brutal ambitions. And everywhere they go, they use murder and fear to foment instability to advance their aims."

President's Radio Address [November 14, 2008]
This document is a White House transcript of President Bush's November 14, 2008 radio address where he focuses on the economy. "This is a decisive moment for the global economy. In the wake of the financial crisis voices from the left and right are equating the free enterprise system with greed, exploitation, and failure. It is true that this crisis included failures by lenders and borrowers, by financial firms, by governments and independent regulators. But the crisis was not a failure of the free market system. And the answer is not to try to reinvent that system. It is to fix the problems we face, make the reforms we need, and move forward with the free market principles that have delivered prosperity and hope to people around the world."

President Bush Holds Last Cabinet Meeting [January 13, 2009]
This White House Press Office document is a transcript from President Bush's last cabinet meeting held on January 13, 2009. "I want to thank an extraordinary group of American citizens who have served our country as members of my Cabinet. Everybody around this table here could have taken the easy road and stayed home and worried about their own comforts, but instead they answered the call to service. And the country is lucky to have folks like this step up and serve. I have thanked them here at my last Cabinet meeting not only for their service, but for helping President-Elect Obama transition. And we wish the President-elect and his team all the very best. It is our genuine wish that they do well. We also reviewed our record, and this administration has had a good, solid record. I'm very proud of it. I tell people I leave town with a great sense of accomplishment and my head held high. We reformed education and test scores for minority students are up. We reformed Medicare -- seniors have now got prescription drug coverage. We lowered taxes for everybody who pays taxes. We transformed our military to make it be able to deal more effectively with the threats of the 21st century. And the Secretary transformed the State Department so it can deal with the threats of the 21st century, as well."

National Policy on Ballistic Missile Defense Fact Sheet
This three-page fact sheet summarizes current administration policy on missile defense. The document begins with a summary of the changed security environment. It then mentions the National Missile Defense Act of 1999, discusses the missile defense program and stresses the need for cooperation with friends and allies. The fact sheet also presents the administration's evolutionary approach which means that "The United States will not have a final, fixed missile defense architecture." But, rather, "will deploy an initial set of capabilities that will evolve to meet the changing threat and to take advantage of technological developments. The composition of missile defenses, to include the number and location of systems deployed, will change over time."
