Working with Communities to Keep Children Safe, v.1.1
From the Introduction: "Infectious diseases like COVID-19 [coronavirus disease 2019] can disrupt the protective environments in which children grow and develop. Disruptions to families, friendships, daily routines and the wider community can have negative consequences for children's well-being, development and protection. COVID-19 also has a direct impact on the ability of child protection actors to engage with communities, as well as on the ability of communities to self-protect and support each other. Learning from past infectious disease outbreaks has taught us that community members act to protect children from the onset of the crisis, and are best placed to identify both child protection and COVID-19 related risks and respond effectively and appropriately. This guidance aims at supporting child protection actors working with communities to keep children safe to adapt their programming to the contagious environment of COVID-19."

Key Messages and Considerations for Programming for Children Associated with Armed Forces or Armed Groups During the COVID-19 Pandemic, v.1
From the Document: "Every day a child remains with an armed force or group, he or she is at risk of physical, psychological and sexual violence, and even death. Prevention of recruitment; separating children from armed forces and groups; responding to their needs; and supporting the reintegration process are all lifesaving interventions. Actions to address the needs of Children Associated with Armed Forces or Armed Groups (CAAFAG) must continue in spite of the COVID-19 [coronavirus disease 2019] pandemic and in coordination with associated response measures."

Technical Note: Protection of Children During the Coronavirus Pandemic (V.2)
From the Document: "Globally, children - those under 18 years of age - are vulnerable to violence, abuse and neglect, most often at the hands of those they know and trust. This is especially evident for those children with special needs or disabilities, diverse sexual orientations, who experience inequality, and who are expected to take on adult roles. [...] Infectious diseases like COVID-19 [coronavirus disease 2019] disrupt the environments in which children grow and develop. The COVID-19 pandemic affects children in three main ways: (1) through infection with the virus itself, (2) through the social and economic impacts of measures, such as control, containment and mitigation, intended to reduce or stop transmission of the virus in various contexts; and (3) through the potential longer-term effects of the crisis including economic downturn and a delay on progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (UN 2020)."

Technical Note: COVID-19 and Children Deprived of Their Liberty
From the Introduction: "Experience from previous infectious disease outbreaks indicates that new child protection risks are likely to emerge from the direct effects of COVID-19 [coronavirus disease 2019] as well as from measures to prevent and control its spread. Moreover, existing child protection risks are likely to be exacerbated. Some groups of people are more vulnerable in these circumstances, including, as discussed in this note, children deprived of their liberty, who often have compromised psychosocial, physical and mental health issues, live in crowded or unhygienic conditions and are more vulnerable to abuse and neglect. Lessons learned from previous outbreaks emphasize the need for States to accommodate increased child protection needs when devising and implementing their response plans. Failure to address such needs or delayed implementation of coordinated responses can increase suffering, cause irreparable harm to children and can delay the recovery of whole communities."

Weighing Up the Risks: School Closure and Reopening Under COVID-19 -- When, Why, and What Impacts?
From the Summary: "[1] In an effort to prevent the transmission of Covid-19 [coronavirus disease 2019], governments around the world have closed schools. [2] School closures are negatively impacting the well-being of children and young people and, in some contexts, might not be effectively reducing transmission. [3] The INEE [Inter-Agency Network for Education in Emergencies] and the Alliance call on policymakers to: [i] Consider the impacts of school closures on the education and protection outcomes of children and youth; [ii] Balance these impacts with a considered review of the health impacts; and [iii] Make informed, child-centered decisions on when and why to reopen schools."

Technical Note: Child Helplines and the Protection of Children During the COVID-19 Pandemic
From the Introduction: "Stressors from the COVID-19 [coronavirus disease 2019] pandemic on children and families, compounded by security, health and financial factors, have increased the risks of intimate partner violence and violence against children. Containment measures can further aggravate situations of children who are already exposed to abusive, neglectful and unsupportive environments. [...] As a response to the COVID-19 crisis, child protection actors and service providers - including government departments, (I)NGOs [(international) non-governmental organizations] and UN agencies - are exploring how they can continue to provide support to children, families and communities remotely through the use of technology. This includes child helplines, which, over the last decade, have become increasingly important in responding to concerns raised by children and young people on a range of issues affecting their lives."

COVID-19: Protecting Children from Violence, Abuse and Neglect in the Home
From the Document: "While the world has experienced many crises, COVID-19 [coronavirus disease 2019] presents unprecedented challenges. António Guterres, Secretary General of the UN, suggests that the coronavirus pandemic is quickly turning into a 'broader child rights crisis'. Media coverage indicates an increase of domestic violence and violence against children. It is abundantly clear that risk factors for violence, abuse, and neglect are on the rise for children under containment. At the same time, some COVID-19 prevention measures have abruptly cut children off from positive and supportive relationships they rely on when in distress, including at school, in the extended family, and in the community. Children's rights to safety and protection as outlined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action are threatened."
