Antarctic Climate and Ecosystems Cooperative Research Centre [website]
From the "About" section: "ACE [Antarctic Climate & Ecosystems] is Australia's largest centre of Antarctic and Southern Ocean climate change research. Our research extends to include climate change impacts in Australia and Pacific. We have national and international extent and reach. Antarctica and the Southern Ocean influence both the regional and global climate in profound ways. These vast areas will experience significant change as the world warms, and in turn those changes will impact on the global climate. Many of the impacts of climate change will be seen in the Southern Ocean and Antarctica before anywhere else on Earth. It is ACE's role to investigate the critical scientific uncertainties that limit the way Australia and the global community can respond to the impacts of these changes."

Violence Prevention Network [website]
The following abstract is taken from http://www.european-network-of-deradicalisation.eu/profiles/2-violence-prevention-network: "Violence Prevention Network is an NGO [non-governmental organization] that works both in prevention and first-line deradicalisation with (young) people that are susceptible to violent right-wing extremism or religious fundamentalism. Violence Prevention Network works in youth detentions as well as in prisons for youths and adults, and also conducts stabilisation coaching after the participant's release throughout the country. Violence Prevention Network applies a deradicalisation approach, which combines anti-violence-training with civic education and pedagogical training modules. The training takes place within 5 months during imprisonment and is followed up by coaching after release. […] At present, Violence Prevention Network is developing an approach to specifically involve young right-wing extremist parents of small children in order to deal with their impending disintegration. Furthermore the Violence Prevention Network team offers counseling for parents whose children are at risk -- or attracted by the idea - to join a terror training camp or have already joined terrorist groups. We are also engaged in the European Platform of Deradicalising Narratives (EDNA), an internet portal that effectively enhances knowledge, awareness and critical thinking among people in examination of, or dealing with extremism, in particular by letting peer voices speak." "Since our last publication in 2009, the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLA(N)) has made significant strides in operationalizing as well as modernizing its force. Although the PLA(N)'s primary focus remains in the East Asia region, where China faces multiple disputes over the sovereignty of various maritime features and associated maritime rights, in recent years, the PLA(N) has increased its focus on developing blue-water naval capabilities. Over the long term, Beijing aspires to sustain naval missions far from China's shores."

Against Their Will: The Situation in Xinjiang
From the Webpage: "The People's Republic of China has arbitrarily detained more than one million Uyghurs and other mostly Muslim minorities in China's far western Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. It is estimated that 100,000 Uyghurs and other ethnic minority ex-detainees in China may be working in conditions of forced labor following detention in re-education camps. [...] The Department of Labor's (DOL) research utilized published victims' testimonies, and media and think tank reports, to determine the various industries implicated in this system of forced labor. Given the vast state-sponsored structure in place and the control of information, it is likely that more goods also are produced with forced labor in China. In July 2020, the U.S. Departments of State, Treasury, Commerce, and Homeland Security released an advisory for businesses with potential ties to Xinjiang. This business advisory, as well as the TVPRA List [List of Goods Produced by Child Labor of Forced Labor] and ILAB's [Bureau of International Labor Affairs] Comply Chain due diligence tool for businesses, are practical guides for raising awareness and addressing this issue. Companies with supply chains that link to China, including, but not limited to, Xinjiang, should conduct due diligence to ensure that suppliers are not engaging in forced labor. With such severe and well-documented, widespread abuses, it is important that the world remains vigilant with respect to labor and goods linked to Xinjiang, including reasonable measures to guard against complicity in these violations."

GAO Antifraud Resource [website]
From the About Webpage: "Prior work by the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) has found that some agencies have had challenges effectively assessing and managing their fraud risks, and that federal managers may not fully understand how fraud affects their programs. GAO built this web resource to help federal officials and the public better understand and help combat federal fraud. We developed the Conceptual Fraud Model [hyperlink] to determine the nature of known fraud, both financial and nonfinancial, that affects federal programs and operations. This fraud model stores the information that supports this Antifraud Resource. Our fraud model is organized as an ontology, which is an explicit description of categories in a subject area and their characteristics, and the relationships amongst them. To develop our fraud model, we collected, reviewed, and analyzed multiple sources of information to validate and refine the fraud model with illustrative examples of federal fraud schemes. [...] To develop our initial model, we reviewed selected academic studies, related literature, and previous GAO reports that discussed conceptual frameworks, characteristics, or relationships associated with fraud. We reviewed public sector documents, public sector websites, and information related to ontologies, including information not related to fraud."

Review of Statewide Interoperability Planning Efforts Across the Country
As communications interoperability continues to be a priority at the local, state, tribal and federal levels, the ability to share knowledge and better practices is a critical success factor in the planning and implementation of statewide interoperability initiatives. Communications interoperability is the ability of public safety agencies to talk across disciplines and jurisdictions via radio communications systems, exchanging voice and/or data with one another on demand, in real time, when needed and as authorized. The Commonwealth of Virginia and SAFECOM, a federal program managed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), have entered into a partnership premised upon applying SAFECOM principles to an effort to plan and implement statewide communications interoperability. Both parties are committed to an approach, which captures the lessons learned that arise throughout their partnership. Those lessons learned can serve as a sample model to others designing and implementing a communications interoperability plan. Often the best place to start an effort as complex as this one is to collect insights and practices of other states and localities that have cleared their own path toward interoperability. This report profiles eighteen different states? planning efforts. The research highlights states and localities experiences with collaboration and participation across stakeholder groups. The purpose of this report is to provide examples of individual planning efforts complemented by a brief analysis of how some of these efforts have been successful and fit within SAFECOM principles.

America's Health Rankings [website]
From the Website: "'America's Health Rankings' releases three state ranking reports. Each report provides a comprehensive look at the health of the population across the nation and on a state-by-state basis using a wealth of reputable data sources: The 'Annual Report' is the longest running annual assessment of the nation's health on a state-by-state basis. For over thirty years, we have analyzed a comprehensive set of population health data to provide a holistic view of the health of the people in the nation. The 'Senior Report', first published in 2013, presents a comparative look at the health of older adults. The 'Health of Women and Children Report', first published in 2016, focuses on women of reproductive age, infants and children. This report emphasizes the population groups where change can make generational differences. All three reports allow users to look at disparities in health by race/ethnicity, gender, age, education and income for a number of measures. 'America's Health Rankings' also prepares a national report on active duty and veteran U.S. service members in partnership with the Military Officers Association of America. 'The Health of Those Who Have Served', first released in November 2016, explores the differences in health and health-related measures between those now serving or who have served in the military and the civilian population."

U.S. Election Assistance Commission: 2020 Annual Report
From the Chairman's Message: "Looking back on 2020, we are proud of the role we played and the work we did to assist state and local election officials as over 150 million Americans voted. The successful administration of the 2020 election provides reassurance that the foundation of America's democracy thrived amid record voter participation and despite a global pandemic. This was in no small part because of the herculean efforts by state and local election officials. Many of the successful measures they developed this year should improve the voting experience in future elections, like increasing the pool of poll workers and improving absentee/mail ballot operations. [...] Finally, our election infrastructure took a huge leap forward in matters of election security, with election officials as well as cyber and national security professionals declaring the November 3rd election 'the most secure in American history.' To maintain and build on this success, however, will require continued investment in the infrastructure of our democracy. Specifically, election officials regularly discuss the need for consistent federal funding that can sustain and grow the innovative practices we have seen."
