"Medical Surge is the capability to rapidly expand the capacity of the existing healthcare system in order to provide triage and then to provide medical care. This includes providing definitive care to individuals at the appropriate clinical level of care, within sufficient time to achieve recovery and minimize medical complications. The capability applies to an event resulting in a number or type of patients that overwhelm the day-to-day acute-care medical capacity. Medical Surge is defined as rapid expansion of the capacity of the existing healthcare system in response to an event that results in increased need of personnel (clinical and non-clinical), support functions (laboratories and radiological), physical space (beds, alternate care facilities) and logistical support (clinical and non-clinical equipment and supplies)." From the "What We Do" page: "The Institute for Policy Analysis of Conflict (IPAC) was founded in 2013 on the principle that accurate analysis is a critical first step toward preventing violent conflict. Our mission is to explain the dynamics of conflict--why it started, how it changed, what drives it, who benefits--and get that information quickly to people who can use it to bring about positive change. In areas wracked by violence, accurate analysis of conflict is essential not only to peaceful settlement but also to formulating effective policies on everything from good governance to poverty alleviation. We look at six kinds of conflict: communal, land and resource, electoral, vigilante, extremist and insurgent, understanding that one dispute can take several forms or progress from one form to another. We send experienced analysts with long-established contacts in the area to the site to meet with all parties, review primary written documentation where available, check secondary sources and produce in-depth reports, with policy recommendations or examples of best practices where appropriate. Our initial focus is Indonesia, with planned expansion to Myanmar and Bangladesh, in the expectation that insights from understanding conflict in the first will be applicable to the others. There may be elements from Indonesia's resolution of communal conflicts in Maluku and Poso, for example, which have relevance for efforts to curb Buddhist violence against Muslims in Myanmar. In others cases, a single issue such as extremism may produce a network that connects the three countries."

"The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) recently became aware of a cybersecurity incident affecting its systems and data that may have exposed the personal information of current and former Federal employees. DoD has been informed by OPM that some employee data has potentially been compromised in this incident and this note provides you with more information. Since the incident was identified, OPM has partnered with the Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to determine the impact to Federal personnel. As a result of this investigation, OPM is notifying approximately 4 million individuals whose Personally Identifiable Information may have been compromised. The notifications will be sent beginning June 8 and continuing through June 19 by email and U.S. mail."

Both sides recognize the importance of sustained channels of communication and share a commitment to avoid misunderstanding and miscalculation, and to prevent unintended incidents or crisis from harming the overall relationship."

"In the spring of 2014, tens of thousands of children and families from El Salvador, Guatemala and
Honduras - known as the Northern Triangle of Central America - arrived at the southwest border of the
United States seeking protection and a safe place to live. Many of these migrants were fleeing conditions
of severe violence, deprivation, and death. Some, after a treacherous 1,500-mile journey through Mexico,
did not arrive at all.
The surge was also a costly
logistical challenge, as the
numbers and unique needs
of the migrants overwhelmed
Border Patrol agents, shelters,
detention facilities and the
immigration courts. The
federal government struggled
to find suitable shelter and legal
support for the unaccompanied
minors, in particular.
Since that spring, the Obama

"The International Cospas-Sarsat Programme (the Programme) is an intergovernmental organisation established in 1988 under the International Cospas-Sarsat Programme Agreement (the Agreement) signed by Canada, France, the former USSR, and the USA. The mission of the Programme is to provide accurate, timely and reliable distress alert and location data to help Search and Rescue (SAR) authorities assist persons in distress. The objective of the Cospas-Sarsat System is to reduce, as far as possible, delays in the provision of distress alerts to SAR services, and the time required to locate a person in distress at sea or on land and provide assistance to that person, all of which have a direct impact on the probability of survival. To achieve this objective, Cospas-Sarsat Participants implement, maintain, co-ordinate and operate a satellite system capable of detecting distress alert transmissions from radio beacons that comply with Cospas-Sarsat specifications and performance standards, and of determining their position anywhere on the globe. The distress alert and location data is provided by Cospas-Sarsat Participants to the responsible SAR services."

Since 2005, Iran has increased its outreach to the region working to strengthen its political, economic, cultural, and military ties. 3. As a result of diplomatic outreach, strengthening of allies' capacity, international nonproliferation efforts, a strong sanctions policy, and Iran's poor management of its foreign relations, Iranian influence in Latin America and the Caribbean is waning. 4. Current U.S., EU, and UN Security Council sanction regimes have limited the economic relationship between the Western Hemisphere and Iran."
