Balkans: Policy Recommendations for the Next Administration, Hearing Before the Committee on Foreign Affairs, House of Representatives, One Hundred Sixteenth Congress, Second Session, December 8, 2020   [open pdf - 9MB]

This is the December 8, 2020 hearing on "Balkans: Policy Recommendations for the Next Administration," held before the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs. From the opening statement of Eliot L. Engel: "Friends, this is the last hearing I will conduct on the Balkans. And it has allowed me to remember some of the high points of my work in the region. [...] Today, it is hard to recognize the region which I first visited in 1993. Countries are independent, democratic, and developing. They have young, intelligent population, ready to liberate their entrepreneurial spirit, their rich cultural heritage, and so much more. Let's finish the work we began when I first entered Congress. Let's stand with the people of this region and let's lead the international community and complete the job of bringing every country of the Balkans into the heart of Europe." Statements, letters, and materials submitted for the record include those of the following: Madeleine K. Albright, Daniel Serwer, and Janusz Bugajski.
