This is the August 8, 1977 hearing on "NRC [Nuclear Regulatory Commission] and ERDA [Energy Research and Development Administration] Nuclear 'MUF' Data," held before the U.S. House Subcommittee on Energy and Power of the Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce House. From the opening statement of John D. Dingell: "Last Thursday the Energy Research and Development Administration and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission publicly released figures on how much special nuclear material is presently unaccounted for at facilities under their jurisdiction. This data is normally referred to as 'MUF.' We meet today to evaluate the usefulness of this information in detecting and preventing a possible theft or diversion of this material, which can so easily be made into a bomb."
