From the Executive Summary: "In July 2020, the AAMC [Association of American Medical Colleges] issued 'The Way Forward on COVID-19 [coronavirus disease 2019]: A Road Map to Reset the Nation's Approach to the Pandemic, [hyperlink]' a comprehensive plan with 11 evidence-based actions to reset the trajectory of the country's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite detailed and widely agreed upon recommendations from stakeholders, our nation has yet to act upon lessons learned to strengthen the current and future pandemic response. The United States is, by design, decentralized in its approach to health, making coordination critical to effectively combating a public health emergency that strikes the entire nation. Yet during the COVID-19 pandemic, federal oversight and guidance was lacking in many areas. To effectively respond to COVID-19 and prepare for the next pandemic, the AAMC Research and Action Institute has identified three key themes that must be at the center of improving the nation's preparedness."
