From the opening statement of Adam Smith: "So the purpose of this hearing is to look at the events surrounding the Department of Defense's response to the protests that arose out of the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, and sort of twofold what I would like to accomplish. One, we would like to better understand what happened, how was the DOD [Department of Defense] involved, what were the steps between the DOD and the White House and the decisions that were made at the various points about DOD involvement specifically in dealing with domestic unrest."
