Employment and Safety Net Survey, Wave I: Employment Disruptions and the Safety Net's Response Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic   [open pdf - 0B]

From the Executive Summary: "With the coronavirus pandemic causing historic labor market disruptions in spring 2020 and the federal government mounting an equally historic legislative response, the American Enterprise Institute commissioned a survey of 3,518 working-age adults in late July 2020. The survey gauged families' experience of employment disruptions and hardship during the economic downturn and the role the private and public safety net played in alleviating hardship and supporting families through difficult financial circumstances. [...] Reported use of safety-net benefits, including unemployment compensation and private sources of help, suggests many vulnerable families have received financial help during the pandemic. Working-age adults from low-income households and from households with children reported the highest rates of support. The private and public safety net targeted households with children and households that had experienced employment disruptions in the wake of the pandemic particularly well."
