From the Introduction: "Nursing homes provide essential services that must be protected at all times, including those extraordinary occasions we call 'emergencies' or 'disasters'. Yet it is difficult to predict when an incident may occur that threatens the ability of a nursing home to safely care for its residents, staff and visitors; or conduct normal operations that maintain the facility's business viability (continuity of operations). In 2016, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) expanded the emergency preparedness requirements for Medicare and Medicaid participating providers and suppliers."
