ABSTRACT

New Limitations on Federal Research Using Human Fetal Tissue [June 19, 2019]   [open pdf - 566KB]

From the Document: "On June 5, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced-- following an audit and review of all HHS research involving the use of human fetal tissue from elective abortions-- that the Administration has decided to discontinue intramural research (i.e., internal) projects involving fetal tissue from elective abortions at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and will add additional ethics review for new extramural research (i.e., external) involving such tissue. In general, about 10% of NIH funding goes to intramural researchers at NIH-operated facilities and over 80% of NIH funding goes to extramural researchers at universities and other institutions."
