"The Office of Biometric Identity Management (OBIM), a subcomponent of the National Protection and Programs Directorate (NPPD), is the lead entity within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) responsible for biometric identity management services to ensure that the homeland is safe, secure, and resilient. [...] The Fiscal Year (FY) 2015 DHS Appropriations Act (P.L. 114-4) provides OBIM with $252,056,000 in FY 2015 to continue as the lead entity in DHS responsible for biometric identity management services and as the steward of IDENT [Automated Biometric Identification System]. This amount includes $25,382,000 for IDENT system improvements and modernization efforts to ensure the continued provision of biometric identity services to OBIM customers and stakeholders. IDENT system improvements also represent the foundational attributes of a future biometric replacement system. NPPD organized this expenditure plan by current services, including funds for Salaries and Expenses, Operations and Maintenance of IDENT and Corporate Systems, and Identity and Screening Services."
