"S. 3047 would direct Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the Postal Service, and other federal agencies to collaborate to develop technology to detect certain drugs that enter the United States in the mail. Using information provided by CBP, CBO [Congressional Budget Office] estimates that it would cost roughly $100 million over the 2019-2021 period to deploy drug detection systems at international mail facilities. The costs of the bill fall within budget function 750 (administration of justice) and are shown in the following table. Estimated outlays are based on the historical rate of spending for similar programs."
