"Flood hazard identification and mapping is an integral part of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) as it creates the foundation for floodplain management, flood insurance, and mitigation. We sought to determine whether the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Risk Mapping, Assessment and Planning Program (Risk MAP) resulted in the production of timely and accurate flood maps in accordance with NFIP requirements. [...] We made four recommendations designed to improve FEMA's management and oversight of its flood mapping programs."
