Developing Integrated Methods to Address Complex Resource and Environmental Issues   [open pdf - 48MB]

"This circular provides an overview of selected activities that were conducted within the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Integrated Methods Development Project (fig. 1), an interdisciplinary project designed to develop new tools and conduct innovative research requiring integration of geologic, geophysical, geochemical, and remote-sensing expertise. The project was supported by the USGS Mineral Resources Program, and its products and acquired capabilities have broad applications to missions throughout the USGS and beyond. The goals of the project were to anticipate new technologies and research directions that will be needed in the future and to support the following: [1] Maintenance and expansion of existing laboratories, equipment, and capabilities; [2] Development and evaluation of new methods and applications; and [3] Innovative fundamental and applied research activities."
