White House Conference on School Safety, Panel I: Preventing Violence in Schools   [open pdf - 259KB]

In response to several school shootings, President Bush asked Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and Education Secretary Margaret Spellings to convene a meeting of leading experts and stakeholders to discuss how federal, state, and local governments can work together with schools, communities, and families to help ensure our schools are safe places for students to learn. The conference took place on October 10, 2006, at the National 4-H Youth Conference Center in Chevy Chase, Maryland. This document includes the opening remarks and panel I: preventing violence in schools.
