Combating Piracy in the Gulf of Guinea [open pdf - 2MB]
Highlights from the Africa Security Brief on "Combating Piracy in the Gulf of Guinea" include the following: "1) An escalation in piracy and other transnational maritime threats in the Gulf of Guinea has exposed the limited levels of maritime domain awareness in the region; 2) The highly fungible nature of maritime security threats means that this challenge cannot be addressed solely by individual states but requires cohesive regional security cooperation; 3) While progress has been made, stronger political commitment is needed if regional maritime security cooperation plans are to be operationalized."
