Counterintelligence in the War Against Terrorism   [open pdf - 237KB]

This article is from the CIA publication "Studies in Intelligence," and is about "Counterintelligence in the War Against Terrorism." The article was released for public viewing on September 12, 2014. From the article: "[T]he United States is at war. The enemy can immediately exploit information gained through espionage to launch attacks. Imagine a Hanssen or an Ames spying for a terrorist group, providing them data about US counterterrorist sources, analyses and intelligence gaps - the damage could be catastrophic. Terrorist espionage inside the US Intelligence Community is no longer a remote possibility. [...] The critical role of intelligence in [the War on Terror] argues for closer integration of counterintelligence and counterterrorist efforts than now exists."
