Letter to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Leadership Regarding Section 702; Congressional White Paper: The Intelligence Community's Collection Programs Under Title [7] of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act   [open pdf - 7MB]

This letter from Kathleen Turner, Director of Legislative Affairs for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and Ronald Weich, Assistant Attorney General of the Office of Legislative Affiars for the Department of Justice, is addressed to Dianne Feinstein and Saxby Chambliss, Chairman and Vice Chairman, respectively, of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. The letter addresses the Intelligence Community's collection programs under Title [7] of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). A classified document enclosed with the letter is described to provide "an overview of all the expiring provisions of FISA." The letter goes on to request that Section 702 within Title [7] be reauthorized by Congress, and that the classified document be provided to all Members of Congress eligible to receive the Top Secret information, as the letter's authors intended "to provide the same document to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence under similar conditions." The enclosed White Paper is as redacted as necessary to preserve ongoing National Security interests.
