Hearing to Receive Testimony on Military Construction, Environmental, and Base Closure Programs in Review of the Defense Authorization Request for Fiscal Year 2014 and the Future Years Defense Program: Hearing Before the United States Senate Committee on Armed Services, Subcommittee on Readiness and Management Support, One Hundred Thirteenth Congress, First Session, April 24, 2013   [open pdf - 673KB]

This testimony compilation is from the April 24, 2013 hearing, "Hearing to Receive Testimony on Military Construction, Environmental, and Base Closure Programs in Review of the Defense Authorization Request for Fiscal Year 2014 and the Future Years Defense Program," before the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services, Subcommittee on Readiness and Management Support. From the opening statement of Jeanne Shaheen: "Testifying we have representatives from each of the military services and the Office of the Secretary of Defense who are responsible for the Department's military construction and environmental programs. And we very much look forward to your testimony. Overall, the President's budget request for military construction and family housing is $11.1 billion in fiscal year 2014, approximately $200 million less than what was requested last year. The budget request broadly reflects the fiscal realities facing the Department, but especially in the absence of a resolution to sequestration, additional savings will need to be achieved. I look forward to hearing more from our witnesses on their top priorities for this year's request so that the subcommittee can move forward in a prudent and informed manner on the defense authorization bill." Statements, letters, and materials submitted for the record include those of the following: Jeanne Shaheen, John C. Conger, Katherine G. Hammack, Roger M. Natsuhara, and Kathleen I. Ferguson.
