India's economy has shown relatively healthy growth since 1991 when an economic crisis caused the government to implement various economic reforms. Yet many analysts view India's economy as falling below its potential, especially when compared to a country such as China, which has achieved far greater economic success over the past decade. The United States is India's largest trading partner. India is a relatively minor U.S. trading partner, although U.S. officials argue that it could be a potentially largemarket if India implemented further economic reforms.
