Iran's Influence and Activity in Latin America: Hearing Before the Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Peace Corps, and Global Narcotics Affairs, Committee on Foreign Relations, United States Senate, One Hundred Twelfth Congress, Second Session, February 16, 2012   [open pdf - 636KB]

From the statement of Cynthia J. Arnson: "The subject of Iran's involvement in Latin America is additionally difficult precisely because there's so little transparency in Iran's economic, security, or intelligence dealings with the region. This is compounded by a parallel or similar lack of transparency among its principal allies in the region, the countries of the socalled ALBA [Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas] bloc. The allegations about Iran's activities in Latin America, which both you and Senator Rubio have just outlined, especially those related to its nuclear ambitions and support for terrorism, deserve to be treated with the utmost seriousness." Statements, letters, and materials submitted for the record include those of the following: Cynthia J. Arnson, Douglas Farah, Roger Noriega, Ilan Berman, Robert Menendez, Marco Rubio, and Richard G. Lugar.
