This fact sheet describes steps that the Department of Homeland Security has taken to improve the nation's security since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. This includes securing the nation's transportation system, protecting the nation's critical infrastructure, strengthening border security, increasing emergency preparedness, improving information sharing, preventing weapons of mass destruction, and increasing defenses against biological threats.
