Remarks by Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff, Immigration and Customs Enforcement Assistant Secretary Julie Myers, and Federal Trade Commission Chairman Deborah Platt Majoras at a Press Conference on Operation Wagon Train [December 13, 2006] [open pdf - 35KB]
In these remarks, Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff and Immigration and Customs Enforcement Assistant Secretary Julie Myers discuss a more comprehensive approach to the issue of illegal immigration. Secretary Chertoff outlines some ways we can take significant steps: increased hiring of border patron agents, new technology in fencing, and no more catch and release at the border. Worksite enforcement has also been increased, as well as increased targeting of criminal organizations and enterprises that support illegal migration by trafficking in false and stolen documents.
