United States Northern Command: Our Role in Defense of Civil Authorities [powerpoint] [open pdf - 3MB]
This presentation describes NORAD (North American Air Defense) Missions: Monitor all man-made objects in space; detect, validate and warn of attack against North America, whether by aircraft, missiles or space vehicles; includes support to U.S. commands designated responsible for missile defense of North America. In regards to aerospace control, it provides surveillance and control of the airspace of Canada and the United States. In regards to maritime warning, it provides situational awareness. The USNORTHCOM Mission: Conduct military operations to: deter, prevent and defeat threats to the United States, its territories and interests within assigned area of responsibility, and provide civil support and other assistance to US civil authorities as directed. A map of USNORTHCOM's areas of responsibilities is included, as well as the chain of command, N-NC interagency coordination directorate, and interagency partners.
