ABSTRACT

Congressional Budget Office Cost Estimate: S. 368, COPS Improvements Act of 2007   [open pdf - 15KB]

From the Summary: "S. 368 would make many changes to the laws relating to the distribution and permitted uses of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grants and would increase the authorization level for this program from $1.047 billion annually to $1.15 billion annually through fiscal year 2009. CBO [Congressional Budget Office] estimates that implementing S. 368 would cost $190 million over the 2007-2012 period, assuming appropriation of the authorized amounts. Enacting the bill would not affect direct spending or receipts. S. 368 contains no intergovernmental or private-sector mandates as defined in the Unfunded Mandates Reform Act (UMRA) and would impose no costs on state, local, or tribal governments."
