From the Hearing Charter: "Recently, a number of organizations, including the National Academy of Sciences, the NSF Office of the Inspector General, Congress, the Office of Management and Budget, and the scientific community, have raised concerns over the adequacy of NSF's planning and management of large research facilities. These large facilities include astronomical observatories, supercomputer centers, the South Pole Station, and earthquake simulators, among others. Witness testimony will describe the process by which these projects are selected for funding as well as agency oversight during implementation and operation of these facilities."
