This report is based on the presentations and discussions at the National Nanotechnology Initiative Workshop held September 30 " October 1, 2003. "Nanotechnology is poised to become the critical driver of economic growth and development for the early 21st century. Cities, states, and entire regions have quickly recognized the potential and have begun to take steps to create nanotechnology clusters." This report serves as a guide to "enhance the effectiveness of efforts already underway and to collect resources and experiential perspectives for those considering the launch of similar initiatives." The report is organized into five sections: Models and considerations for launching an initiative; Workforce development and education; Research development and infrastructure; Economic Development and commercialization; and Lessons learned.
