ABSTRACT

Estimated County Loss Ratios from Wind Damage: Hurricane Charley   [open pdf - 2MB]

This map provided by HAZUS-MH (Hazards U.S. - Multi Hazard), illustrates how wind damage effected residential loss as a percentage of total residential building value in the wake of Hurricane Charley. It also describes how HAZUS-MH can be used in pre-disaster preparation, including the preparation of policies and procedures for utilizing county loss ratios to support mitigation planning. It can also be used in post-disaster planning including: Assessment of disaster impacts on housing inventory in affected counties, prioritization of disaster assistance to impacted communities, assessment and documentation of economic impacts from wind damage, and significantly high loss ratios may be useful triggers in initiating long-term recovery under the National Response Plan.
