ABSTRACT

Importance of a National Spatial Data Infrastructure to Homeland Security   [open pdf - 1MB]

This Power Point presentation is an overview of the GITA-JAPAN 14th Conference that took place on 6-7 November 2003 in Tokyo, Japan. It looks at the prospect of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as a tool to integrate data from diverse sources, and visually analyze data to support decision making many time faster than any other tool. It lists some of the benefits of such a system in practical situations, and then how it supports homeland security: geographic location is the key feature in 80-90% of all government and utility data/information.
