Alternate Title: 9/11 Commisssion, Eighth Public Hearing: Statement of Donald H. Rumsfeld, March 23, 2004

The eighth public hearing of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States was held March 23-24, 2004 in Washington, DC. The two-day hearing investigated the formulation and conduct of U.S. counterterrorism policy, with particular emphasis on the period from the August 1998 embassy bombings to September 11, 2001. In this testimony Donald H. Rumsfeld examines the events leading up to September 11th, and considers whether events of that day might have been prevented - and, what lessons, if any, might be taken from that experience to prevent future dangers.
