The number of attempted terrorist acts in the United States remains equally alarming to the law enforcement community. Investigators must consider the sources of today's international and domestic terrorism threats. Over the last several years, the FBI has noted a new trend in terrorism within the United States that involves a transition from more numerous low-level incidents to less frequent but more destructive attacks, with a goal to produce mass casualties and attract intense media coverage. This analysis covers the different strategies in approaching international and domestic terrorism, and some reasons for the massive climb in activity.
