The National Park Service (NPS) is an integral part of the U.S. Department of Interior. The Bureau promotes and conserves the nation's national parks, which contain historical and cultural sites. National parks provide information about people from the past and establish important connections to the present. NPS employees experienced the tragic events of September 11 and the 9.11.01 Remembrance: The Meaning of National Parks in a Time of Crisis online exhibit records not only the strategic response of the NPS, but the deeper impact on the people involved.
