This report discusses the introduction of the Battlefield Combat Identification System (BCIS) as one of the initiatives designed to prevent fratricide. BCIS is an all-weather, digitally encrypted Q&A system developed by TRW Space and Electronics Group for the Army's Communications and Electronics Command; it is designed to immediately identify potential targets as friendly, enemy, or neutral/noncombatant.
